چکیده
CHEST, 70: 4, OCTOBER, 1976 if a 1-percent solution is adequate. We use 5 ml of a 4percent solution of lidocaine (for a total of 200 mg) to anesthetize the larynx and tracheobronchial tree. We have now performed over 4,500 examinations with the fiberoptic bronchoscope using the oral route of intubation and have encountered no episodes of serious laryngospasm.2 More importantly, we premedicate any asthmatic patient, whether symptomatic or asymptomatic, with a drip infusion of aminophylline, giving 100 to 300 mg before and during the procedure and more during the postbronchoscopic period if any suggestion of bronchospasm appears. We can also leave the oral airway in place if it appears as though the patient may be in some distress. Having the intravenous needle in place for the drip infusion of aminophylline also gives us a quick route for administering a steroid bolus, should it be needed.

Dialysis Catheter-Related Superior Vena Cava Syndrome with Patent Vena Cava: Long Term Efficacy of Unilateral Viatorr Stent-Graft Avoiding Catheter Manipulation
Central venous catheters are the most frequent causes of benign central vein stenosis. We report the case of a 79-year-old woman on hemodialysis through a twin catheter in the right internal jugular vein, presenting with superior vena cava (SVC) syndrome with patent SVC. The clinically driven endovascular therapy was conducted to treat the venous syndrome with a unilateral left brachiocephalic ...
متن کاملSuperior vena cava syndrome caused by haemodialysis catheter
Malignancy is the most common cause of the superior vena cava (SVC) syndrome. The incidence of the SVC syndrome arising from benign aetiologies is increasing and accounts for ∼35% of cases [1]. The uraemic populations, with increased use of intravascular catheters, contribute importantly to this phenomenon. We describe a haemodialysis patient with SVC syndrome due to a long-term implantation of...
متن کاملSuperior Vena Cava Syndrome due to Thrombosis: A Rare Paraneoplastic Presentation of Bronchogenic Carcinoma
Superior vena cava (SVC) syndrome is not an uncommon occurrence in patients with malignancy and it is often described as a medical emergency. In majority of the cases, SVC syndrome occurs due to mechanical obstruction of the SVC by extraluminal compression with primary intrathoracic malignancies. However, intraluminal obstruction due to thrombosis can also produce symptoms and signs of SVC synd...
متن کاملCentral venous catheter-related superior vena cava syndrome following renal transplantation -A case report-
A 55-year-old man with end-stage renal disease had severe left ventricular dysfunction and a history of deep vein thrombosis. He underwent renal transplantation, during which a central venous catheter was inserted into the right jugular vein. The central venous pressure (CVP) exceeded 20 mmHg throughout the operation but there was no other adverse event. After surgery, although the left ventric...
متن کاملStent Implantation for Effective Treatment of Refractory Chylothorax due to Superior Vena Cava Obstruction as a Complication of Congenital Cardiac Surgery
Chylothorax is a serious complication of congenital cardiac surgery and is significantly associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Central venous obstruction, which is often related to the insertion of central venous catheters for postoperative management, is known to be an important risk factor for treatment failure and mortality associated with this condition. We present the case of ...
